In a heartfelt tribute to the legacy of Dr. José Rizal (Her. Dimasalang), brethren Novo Fernandez (Her. Mananaliksik) of Resp. Log. Solidaridad Nu.28 has collaborated with Filipino heritage enthusiasts in Ballarat Victoria, Australia to commemorate the Rizal Day on December 30th, 2024. The event showcased Filipino pride and patriotism, bringing the Filipino-Australian community together for a remarkable cultural celebration.
The highlight of the gathering was a theatrical play depicting the execution of Dr. José Rizal, which took place at Bagumbayan (now known as “Luneta”) on December 30, 1896. The reenactment moved the audience, vividly reminding everyone of Rizal’s ultimate sacrifice for Philippine independence.
Following the powerful play, participants gathered for a picture-taking session. Adding significance to the occasion was the presence of Dr. Rizal’s great-grand niece, Josephine Quintero, whose pride in her ancestor’s enduring legacy was palpable. Alongside her stood an Australian scholarDr. Allan Terret(4thfrom the left) and esteemed member of the Knights of Rizal, holding a doctorate degree focused on the life and works of Rizal. His dedication to preserving and sharing the story of ournational hero resonated with everyone present. Dr. Terrett was also instrumental in securing the Rizal Park in Ballarat, a subburb of Victoria25 years ago, to gather and commemurate Dr. Rizal’s legacy.
The event was a testament to the enduring influence of Dr. José Rizal, whose ideals continue to inspire not only Filipinos but also individuals from different nationalities. Hermano Mananaliksik and other enthusiasts successfully honored Rizal’s memory, strengthening bonds between Filipinos and Australians and fostering a shared appreciation for Filipino history and heritage.
